Unkind Update #4

Greetings, Dreamers!

The re-release of Waking Dream: Devlin Book I is on time and will be out on September 22nd!  You can pre-order a signed copy today by visiting this link.

Immortal Memories: Volume I has been sent to the editor and includes 2 brand new stories, the expanded version of Place of the Sisters and Vacant Eyes on the Eternal Sea!

Now that all the editing is behind me, I am full force on Waking Dream: The Unkindness Book II.  A dark plot will be revealed, and many new characters introduced.  This will be a face paced, action-filled book with elements of horror, the paranormal and the supernatural.

I am tentatively expecting to release in the first quarter of 2014!  And then I will be working on Waking Dream: The Black Heart Book III, ending the Transformation Series.

Also, mark your calendars for the week of Halloween when I will be interviewed on the Nationally Syndicated radio show The Book Report with Elaine Charles.  It will be on air and available through iTunes Podcasts.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Devlin Update

Hibbard-WakingDream-DevlinBook1 750 x 1200As you can all see we’ve got our shiny new cover, and the copy edits will be commencing this Friday.  After a lot of thought and discussions, we’ve decided that a September 22nd release would be best for the novel.  Devlin takes place in the Autumn and since September 22nd is the first day of Autumn, its a good fit for the series.

Immortal Memories we are going to try and get out on Halloween of 2013, with Book II coming sometime in late January or Early February of 2014 — this follows the timeline of that book.

In addition to all of this excitement, I will have my first ever Author Interview that will be posted on Monday and I will share that link as soon as its posted!  The interview is about the Waking Dream Universe, the upcoming books and The Way of the Weird website.  Way of the Weird has captured a lot of attention in the past few months because it is a completely fictitious (or is it?) blog, written by the Crier at Twilight.  So if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, you’ll find all sorts of goodness about the Waking Dream while you wait for the books to be released.

Thank you all again for your support!

The Unkind Update III

Greetings Dreamers,

I just wanted to give you a status update on where we are with release of the books, and the progress of Book II The Unkindness — for those of you who had the opportunity to read the first edition of Devlin.

Tentatively, we will be releasing the illustrated version of Devlin in Late August or Early September.  After that we will be releasing the illustrated version of Immoral Memories with an additional story and illustrations on Halloween.  Soon after — assuming my creative streak continues — Book II The Unkindness will be ready for January of 2014.

The Unkindness is coming along much better than I expected and I guarantee, you will be shocked at the end of the book.  New characters will be revealed, the identity of the immortal traitor will be revealed, and the world will be changed forever.

For those of you who haven’t had a chance to visit http://wayoftheweird.com you might want to take a chance to read the stories there.  All of the additions to the Libellus Somnium are there, and I have been blogging the new stories of The Crier at Twilight on a weekly basis.  (Sometimes daily because, well, you know how the voices in your head do sometimes)

I’m getting the final edits for Devlin next week, so we will be on our way to getting the book out to reviewers before the release.  If you are a dark fantasy reviewer, blog or otherwise,  and have a large following on twitter or your blog, feel free to contact me for an eBook version as soon as it becomes available.

The Weirdness is coming!

Our Waking Dream

As we approach the launch of the book, I am working on a whole new interactive experience that will allow you the reader create your own Dreamer and interact with other Dreamers.  This is an old school gaming format known as “Free Form Role-play”.

In addition to working on Book II, I am building a website for Dreamers to enter into chat rooms that are set in various places in the books, where everyone can contribute to expanding their own Dreamer story and react to the events unfolding in the books.  Free Form Role-play has very little rules, and is meant to focus more on story telling and not on combat and rules.  Each of you will have the opportunity to create your Dreamer, gain experience by doing various activities on the website, and use Quanta and Weirdness to shape your part in the Waking Dream.

I will be rolling out various features as they are completed.  I am going to take an iterative approach to releasing functionality, and I will be taking feedback from you all on what features you would like me to add.

There will be no charge for using this website, and you don’t even need to buy the books, but it is highly suggested since you will want to follow the story.

I will be having a limited beta-test in June, and I will create a sign-up sheet for those interested in helping me test the site out.  I will also be recruiting DreamMasters to moderate the chat rooms, and settle any disputes.  DreamMasters will have the final say over any ambiguities that may arise.  You may only have one Dreamer account at a time and when your Dreamer dies, you will be able to create a new one to replace the old one.

To get yourself ideas on the world and the system, check out the Way of the Weird website for more information.

I will keep you updated on the progress.

The Unkind Update

Greetings Dreamers!

I am nearly half way finished with the next book, and I wanted to give you all an opportunity to give me feedback on what you’d like to see more of in the next book!  Is there a character you want to know more about?  Is there a different location you want me to highlight?  More action?  More romance? More horror?

Waking Dream: The Unkindness will expose who is behind the plot to start the Transformation.  Several new characters will be introduced, and the Greater and Celestial Immortals will be revealed.  Will the Dreamers survive?  What will the world look like after the Transformation has completed?

Please feel free to comment on this post, via Facebook or directly below this post in the comments section.

Thank you again for all your support!

Waking Dream: The Unkindness Book II

The UnkindnessI thought I would take a moment to talk about the next novel in the series.

Waking Dream: The Unkindness Book II picks up where Devlin left off and thrusts the reader into a fast-paced story of deception, redemption and transformation.

The architect behind the end of the world will be exposed.  New characters will be introduced to help the Dreamers of Devlin, and Dreams across the world, survive the storm brewing in the depths of shadow and transgression.

I have already begun writing Book II and I expect to release it towards the end of this year.  But as a solace, many stories and ancillary information will be available on both the websites.  Waking Dream and Way of the Weird

I also have some exciting news.  I have been contacted by real publishers to read my manuscript.  It looks like there is a very good chance that I will have a publisher within the next month.  Those of you who purchased the original first editions are fortunate because those versions will be discontinued, and become collector’s items as first editions — assuming this series gains any steam in the Dark Fantasy community. So when I return to the Spaces Between, you’ll have the first ever copies of my work.

Again, I thank you all for your continued support and interest in my universe.  I hope it brings you as much enjoyment reading as I enjoy writing it.  There are so many places we can explore together.  I hope that you will stay on the path with me, and see how the world is inevitably transformed, which is what is really happening in our world today.  Perhaps, if we work together, we can awaken our weirdness’ and change the world before it’s too late.

5 out of 5 stars WOW! JUST WOW!, February 21, 2013 By BJASLS1972
This review is from: Waking Dream: Devlin, Volume 1 (Transformation) (Paperback)

I’ve just completed reading Waking Dream: Devlin by Michael Hibbard. I must say that this would certainly make an intriguing television series or movie, but let me back up and tell you my thoughts on the novel itself.

Through exploring this novel, it will make you think about your own reality as it blurs the lines between what is real and what is fantasy. Are you a sleeper, dreamer, or immortal not yet awakened? This novel will certainly open your mind to the possibilities.

The characters in this novel are on their own journey towards figuring out who are they and what is their purpose in an ever changing world. As more and more information is carefully disclosed about the characters, whether hints about their history or foreshadowing about their future, you will become increasingly captivated by them. You will root for some while praying for the demise of others.

The journey certainly does not end with Waking Dream: Devlin. There is definitely so much more to come in future. I can not help but be eager to see what author Michael Hibbard brings to us next.

This review is from: Waking Dream: Devlin, Volume 1 (Transformation) (Paperback)

I enjoyed Devlin as much as I did Immortal Memories. Many more characters were introduced in this addition and each felt hand tailored and fleshed out. It also gives the reader more insight in the the Waking Dream universe which feels like a living character itself, with many things going on within it. I am excited for the next installment as the ending will leave you wanting to know more!

Amazon Reviews & Other Reviews

We’ve noticed that Amazon does not allow anyone review a book unless you have a previous purchase with them.  So I’ve created a rating system and moved all current 10 reviews to the website.  If you experienced that problem and want to review the book, you can do so at the following link. Immortal Memories

I have already moved all of the reviews from Amazon over to the site so if you’ve already reviewed I thank you greatly!  We’ve sold over 400 copies in the past month, so I expect we will be getting more feedback in the next few weeks!

The Waking Dream – Why I Write

I began writing the Waking Dream stories, as well as creating characters, illustrations and a role-playing framework about 15 years ago. I’ve been a gamer and role-player since I was 8 — I played the original Dungeons and Dragons, and I was hooked [After 6 hours of trying to understand the rules, then creating a character with one hit point that died in the first battle *never start with a wizard*]

Over the years, I have played just about every major role-playing game, both on and offline since then. I am an avid Xbox gamer, and I when I am not writing, I am gaming [and of course spending time with my family who also game.] What hooked me to role-playing was free-form role-play on Internet Relay Chat [IRC], and the first place I played was BlkDragon*Inn on EFNet. There was no turning back from there.

What has always disappointed me, is the fact that many games, books and role-playing games are variations on the same theme. Its not to suggest that other writers are not extraordinarily talented. They have taken the themes and done wonders. But I wanted something unique and different from the rest. I wanted to truly create a unique universe, not just a single world varying on a multitude of worlds already created. I want to create a new reality.

I truly enjoy playing console and PC games, but they are always limited in the story, for many obvious reasons. The developers can only allow so much in the storyline, though some, like Skyrim and all the Elder Scrolls games, are extremely submersive. I want to create something that will never have an ending. There will always be something new and unique.

The Waking Dream is a culmination of all my studies, religion, philosophy, quantum mechanics, cosmology, astronomy, and literature — and so much more than that. I believe that the Waking Dream is a new direction in literature — for many reasons. The Immortal, One, is the beginning of a new way of thinking. The Weirdness is a new way of interacting with our world. And if you take a moment and watch the news its clear to see that the world is having some serious growing pains.

I believe that life imitates art, and that is because we are inspired beings — we want to experience something new, create something new, explore something new. When you look at the list of movies “Coming Soon”, you’ll notice that there are over 12 remakes in the works. This means we are running out of ideas, or we’ve fallen into a rut of inspiration. It is now time to think outside the box.

The Waking Dream is a whole new genre, but I’ve put it under dark fantasy because it deals with the end of things as we know it. The Waking Dream World will undergo a drastic change that will leave nothing unaffected — and I think that there is something similar coming for our own world, though I do not claim to have the prescience to know what that might be.

With Waking Dream, it is my commitment to my readers to lead them through a transition to a new way of thinking and interacting, and then, I will do it again. There are 9 novels outlined for the entire series, not counting the short stories and biographies of the Immortals. I have created over 100 characters, and I expect each of you who become submersed in the world, to contribute with your own stories.

The Waking Dream is not just about me, its about all of us. I want others to create stories, and I will happily promote them on my site and in collections. The Waking Dream is about exploring the possibilities, and not limiting ourselves by the ties that currently bind us.

I appreciate all of your commitments to my work. Each fan we gain humbles me beyond words.

Enjoy the world, give me feedback, and help me build the Waking Dream so that we all can awaken our weirdness and change the world.
